Karen Dumas
Karen Dumas is Chief Communications Officer for Mayor Dave Bing and the City of Detroit.
She is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day communications needs of Mayor Bing, as well as the overall direction and strategy for communication efforts and operations for the City, at-large.

She is a former columnist for The Michigan Chronicle and African-American Family Magazine, and host of the radio shows "Up Front with Karen Dumas" and "Sunday Afternoon."A respected local radio & television personality and communications specialist, she was also President of her own PR firm, Images & Ideas, Inc., which she founded in 1988.
Dumas formerly served as Director of Culture, Art & Tourism for the City of Detroit, which included the Detroit Film Office and Eastern Market.  She also served as Director of Community Relations for former Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick.

She serves on the Communication Committee for the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, the Editorial Advisory Board for B.L.A.C. Magazine, and previously on the PR committee for the NCAA Final Four/Detroit, among many others. The City of Detroit, State of Michigan, and several "Who's Who" entities have recognized her achievements.

Dumas graduated from Michigan State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. She is also the published author of, "In Other Words: A Collection of Thoughts & Columns."  She and her husband, Timothy Cook, reside in Detroit with their two children.
